It follows a spate of arrests of suspected child traffickers. On Friday, two women were stopped at the Togo-Ghana border with seven children they said had been entrusted to them by their parents. The women said the children were going to work on plantations in Ivory Coast, but security officials say they believe the children were tricked. Another group of suspected child traffickers was detained at the weekend with 21 children. They, too, told investigators they had recruited the children with the consent of their parents to work on cocoa farms in the Ivory Coast. Last week, Togo handed to the authorities in Benin 11 children from Benin who had been found in the hands of suspected child traffickers. |
