Security in the Zambian capital, Lusaka, has been tightened after a series of bomb explosions on Sunday.

The legal affairs minister Vincent Malambo said the government was treating the bombings as a security crisis and had placed the armed forces on full alert.

The worst explosion damaged the Angolan embassy, killing a guard.

Other targets were Lusaka's main water pipeline and luxury apartment blocks.

The Zambian leader, President Frederick Chiluba said the perpetrators and their sponsors would not go unpunished. Relations between Angola and Zambia have deteriorated since Angola accused the Zambian government of aiding UNITA rebels fighting to overthrow President Jose Eduardo dos Santos.
