Tanzanian US bombing suspects appear in court

News image

A magistrate in Tanzania has remanded in custody two men suspected of taking part in the bombing in August of the United States embassy in the capital, Dar es Salaam.

It was the eighth court appearance for the Egyptian, Mustafa Mohamed Said Ahmed and a Tanzanian man, Rashid Saleh Hemed.

The court must decide whether evidence exists for a full trial in the high court; the men will be held for a further two weeks while investigations continue.

Earlier this month, the FBI announced a five-million dollar reward for information leading to the arrest of five more suspects.

Eleven people died in the bombing of the US embassy in Dar es Salaam; more than two hundred died in the Kenyan capital, Nairobi, whose US embassy was attacked on the same day.
