South Africa truck crash tragedy
Breaking News
Forty-seven members of a South African family were killed and more than 50 others injured when their truck overturned in the north-east of the country.

About 120 members of the Chego family - on an annual visit to the burial ground of their ancestors in the north-eastern province of Mpumalanga - were travelling in the truck.

The driver appears to have lost control going down a steep gravel farm road. He has been questioned and will be charged with culpable homicide, police said.

The driver was only slightly hurt, but many of the passengers were taken to hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The accident takes the number of people killed on South Africa's roads to more than 700 since 1 December.
