1XTRA NEWS: THE REAL TALK OF THE STREETS
Do you like it loud?
mp3 player
Listening to your MP3 player at its highest volume for just one hour a day is enough to seriously damage your hearing, according to a new study. How loud do you have yours?
The research for European politicians claims being exposed to loud music could lead to people getting tinnitus or ringing in the ears.

The condition already affects more than 3 million in the UK. It's estimated that up to 60% of 16 to 34-year-olds listen to music at very high volumes without knowing the risks.

Doctors recommend using sound-isolating headphones which drown out background noise.
Do you listen to your mp3 player on its highest level? Has it affected your hearing? Do you worry about the health risks? Do you know anyone who suffers from tinnitus?

To all you so called LOUD MUSIC LOVERS beware the tinnitus outcome, oh boy you will be so sorry for the years and years of suffering you will have to put up with long after your love of loud music has gone. Years of sleep problems, not being able to listen to your mate talking in a pub, always having to ask people to repeat a question because you do not hear the beginning of the sentence because you are not tuned in. Lastly toy will have all the loud sounds, shrills, rings, running water, buzzing etc. etc. until as it has been known it drives you to suicide. Take heed it really happens.

Hi there, I have tinnitus for around 2 months now. I don't listen to loud music anymore due to this, as it has scared the day-lights out of me. I am 18 years of age with a slight Ringing/high pitches screech in my left ear / head. People, please preserve your hearing it is not pleasant with a life without silence.

Erine
Without listening to MP3 but I still got this devil tinnitus for all most 4 years. Even, taking medicine recommended by GP still can't help. In Asia, is there any cure for this?

This is an increcible story because 3 weeks ago a ringing started in my ear. I am a DJ and keep my iPod with me everywhere I go so I can beatmatch in my head - and this is ALL the time. Now I am really worried and bought an earplug for my left ear because I can't take too much (even street) noise - it's really freaky. And now going into Dec I have loads of gigs and am worried by this. I cannot believe the coincedence of you running this story - I need info on this so bad. Also, my GP didn't help me at all and said to come back another time - it just stressed me out more. Not cool at all. Even now listening to 1xtra it creates a thud in my ear and it whistles at night.

Ralph
i sure do listen 2 ma music loud, but it's not just cuz i wanna get rid of background noise, but also cuz i wanna hear EVERY instrumental detail besides i'm not really into what the MC's saying apart from the chorus perhaps...

kam
My mum always told me this! There has been some research about loud music and noise for years that she based her concerns on. It extends to nightclubs and any other loud noise in general. Its something to be aware of, but if the music in your ears is too loud to the extent of damage, it actually hurts, and you would have to be very silly to listen to something that hurts lol?

Jessica
I always listen to my mp3 player really loud! i guess its stupid to do that when you know it might damage ur hearing but its one of those things that you never think will happen to you. It hasn't affected my hearing as yet.......I'm a woman so i have selective hearing anyway! ;)

gemma
