1XTRA NEWS: THE REAL TALK OF THE STREETS
Slavery: Time for sorry?
Urbeatz
Liverpool has said sorry for the major role it played in the slave trade. Should Britain follow suit?
Its ships transported more than a million slaves in exchange for goods like cotton, alcohol, sugar and tobacco.

Urbeatz's Yaw and Young Kof show us around the city where reminders of the past are still around.

In 1999 Liverpool formally apologised for the part it played but is it too little too late?
Should the British apologise for their part in slavery? Or is it too late? What difference would it make? Who would you choose to say sorry? Are words enough or should compensation be involved?

mary
your parents were never a slave so you don't know how it feels, britain should definitely apologise for slavery..........the implication of not appologising for wrongs done can be seen in the recent events of northern ireland. It is only right to appologise for slavery.

john
i want an apology from the romans, the vikings, the scotch, the celts, the angles, the saxons, the french for 1066.the dutch for killing our king.do i sound ridiculus enough yet???while we argue about the past we lose the future.time the world grew up!

Kathryn
No one can say that slavery was a good thing, but why should we apologise for our history? Slavery has always been around, but so has war. Should we apologise for every war, every murder, every mistake? No, the past is past, it can't be changed so lets accept it and move on. These campaigners should do something useful and concentrate on stopping modern day slavery, rather than being offended and blaming us for our ancestors mistakes.

Colin Bishop
How can we apologise in 2008 for something that took place over 200 years ago? Lets leave history where it belongs, in the past.

Patrick
Apologise for what? I was not born until 1952 and had nothing to do with slavery.

Dave
Britain should apoligize its only right
