There's a bangin' new sound that's sweeping across America ... and it's already started to hit these shores hard! Semtex breaks it down:
"Hyphy (pronounced hi-fee) is the next big thing in the States. It's virtually Crunk but done in a West Coast style, with their own slang, dance moves, clothes and car culture. It isn't just a sound really, it's more a lifestyle.
"The movement's been simmering over the last few years. Producer Rick Rock, who's worked with Jay-Z and Fabolous among others, moved out to the Bay Area on the West Coast with one thing in mind.
"Through Federation, a local act, Rock's aim was to put the Bay Area lifestyle and the sound on the map. Three years ago, people weren't ready for it so, as a result, his label flopped the project.
"Now, E-40 is currently spearheading this West Coast renaissance with his latest album My Ghetto Report Card. The Rick Rock & Lil Jon produced LP hit #3 in the US charts.
"The beats on My Ghetto Report Card are stupidly sick! Serious head banging music! From LA to Sacramento , artists from across the West Coast are getting involved with the Hyphy Movement. For the rest of 2006 it's only going to get bigger. You've been warned!"
