Question and Answer
How do I get a production deal?
Back to FAQs list

I take it by 'production deal' you mean a deal wherein you are contracted to do X amount of production for a label or management company's stable of artists?

You'll need to show the company concerned you can produce hit tracks for their artists. So you'll need a proven track record or a willingness to work for free until you've demonstrated what you can do.

Get yourself a showreel of your productions. Use other artists' accapellas to showcase the styles of music you make. You might need to produce some original tracks with your own artists as well, to show what's so great about your ideas.

Then it's a case of getting companies to give you a chance with one of their artists to demo. Some of your tracks will usually be done on spec. ie. they'll only pay you or discuss further if they like the results.

In a market where there's a lot more product than artists to go round, this is probably one of the harder deals to get, but definitely worth pursuing.

Try a ting, good luck with it.
