Question and Answer
I read an article about 'bluffing' (mixing on computers). I don't own real decks and computer 'decks' are cheaper and easier to use. Is doing a laptop set an acceptable alternative to proper decks?

This is a really good question and I'd love to get the opinions of some of the other 1Xtra DJs on this.

I think its cool to do the 'computer DJing' thing because you're making good use of technology and you might not have any other way to get into the noble art (of DJing) if you cant afford a decent set of turntables. So in that respect I think it's acceptable.

However, coming from the old school, I still think it's cheating to a degree.

There is a big difference between doing a mix and being a mix DJ. While I think its cool to use whatever technology you can, to enhance your mix ideas, actual DJing (or being a DJ full stop) is the domain of vinyl, decks and CDJs. This requires more hands-on skills and though obviously biased, I think that is the real 'DJ' in every sense.

What do you think? This argument could go on for days.
