Jupiter and its moon Io pictured by the New Horizons spacecraft. The probe, the fastest ever launched, will make its closest pass of the planet on 28 February. Jupiter's gravity will accelerate New Horizons beyond 83,000km/h for a pass of Pluto in July 2015.
