At least 14 people have died and more than sixty others have been hospitalised in the southern Indian state of Kerala, after drinking contaminated alcohol.

Police said they bought the drink from an illegal brewery in the town of Kalluvathukal, about eighty kilometres from the state capital, Trivandrum.

Officials say more people are likely to die.

A BBC correspondent in Delhi says nearly one hundred people have so far died from drinking illegal alcohol since the government banned another drink, known as Arrack, in 1995.
