The UN Security Council has condemned North Korea's "clear violation" of the world body's UN Resolution 1718 by carrying out an underground nuclear test.
Russian envoy to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, who chaired the meeting said the UN Security Council had agreed to begin work immediately on a new resolution.
North Korea has said the test was part of work to bolster what it called its nuclear deterrent.
