A working party has been looking at childcare in the island
Jersey's Education Minister has propsed that children aged three and four should get 20 hours of free childcare for 38 weeks each year.

In a report on childcare provision, Senator Mike Vibert said he would be taking the proposal to the Council of Ministers next year.

In August a working party was set up to look at the issue of childcare and has now released a progress report.

The proposals are expected to cost in the region 1.5m.

Senator Vibert said he would also consider charging for nursery places and the introduction of means testing for places.
