French police investigating the death four months ago of Diana, Princess of Wales, and her friend, Dodi Al Fayed, have produced further evidence that a white Italian-made car may have been involved in the fatal crash.

In a report to the investigating magistrate, police quote two witnesses saying they saw the Fiat Uno zigzagging out of the tunnel in Paris, just seconds after the crash.

The witnesses say the driver was a man of about forty, with a big dog in the back of his car.

A BBC correspondent in Paris says police have been checking hundreds of vehicles fitting the description, but haven't managed to establish a link to the accident.

Investigators have established that the driver of the Princess' car, who also died in the accident, had more than three times the allowed level of alcohol in his blood at the time of the crash.
