The main opposition party in Senegal has again said it will refuse to recognise the results of last weekend's general election, claiming that there had been widespread fraud.

The leader of the Senegalese Democratic Party, Abdoulaye Wade, insisted he would contest the results, by seeking a ruling from the Constitutional Court.

The results gave the governing Socialist Party of President Abdou Diouf -- which has been in power since independence in 1960 -- ninety-three of the one-hundred-and-forty seats in parliament.

Mr Wade's PDS party received twenty-three seats while the new Democratic Renewal Movement gained eleven seats.
