Screen legend Jane Russell is joining the cast of a musical in Cardiff about theatre producer David Gest.

The actress, now 88, shot to fame in 1946 in the movie The Outlaw, which had been considered too raunchy for audiences to watch three years earlier.

Her other notable films included Gentlemen Prefer Blondes with Marilyn Monroe.

David Gest... My Life! A Musical Concert Extravaganza is touring the UK and is at St David's Hall on Saturday.

The musical tells the story of theatre producer Gest, the ex-husband of actress Liza Minnelli, through his love of music.

The show also includes a tribute to Michael Jackson, and an interview between Gest and Jackson will be shown.

Gest came to the attention of the British public when he appeared in the ITV show I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

Jane Russell's appearance in the Welsh capital was described by St David's Hall as an "amazing exclusive for the city".

The actress is best known for her appearance in The Outlaw.

It was Ms Russell's first major film role and the poster from the the movie features the Hollywood star looking sultry in a revealing outfit.

But the classic 1943 western, directed by the eccentric billionaire Howard Hughes, was shown for a just a week before censors withdrew it because it was considered then to be risqué.
