Curiosity can kill the cat but for one inquisitive moggy it has taken her on a 60-mile journey across north Wales.

The female tabby is being cared for at a Flintshire animal sanctuary after it arrived in the county in the back of a lorry.

It is believed the animal, which does not have a collar, hitched a lift when the driver of the vehicle stopped in Menai Bridge on Anglesey.

The owners have three weeks to come forward and claim her or she will be found a new family.

Sheila Stewart from Capricorn Animal Sanctuary near Mold said she came across her by chance.

"I went to the vets with a litter of puppies and the vet asked me to take the cat because it had been handed in by a truck driver who was on his way to London.

"Cats are nosy and like going where it's nice and warm, cats are always getting into vehicles - only to get out at supermarket car parks," she said.

Ms Stewart, who has been running the centre for the past 20 years said the unnamed cat had settled in well to homeless life.

"She walked in as if she owned the place - she just came in - went to the highest point and looked down at everyone - she thinks she's far superior to the others.

"She's very loving, has a lovely nature and she's been very, very well looked after.

"She's definitely someone's pet and someone must be looking for her.

"We have contacted the Cats Protection League in that area, the local vets have all been notified and she's on the national missing cats database for that area," she said.

Cats are naturally curious animals and Sheila said she has taken them in after being discovered by unsuspecting people before.

Some have been found in trucks coming from builder's sites and the postman has also brought in strays to the centre.
