1964: Wilson narrowly wins

In 1964 the Conservatives lost the general election and Harold Wilson became the first Labour Prime Minister since Clement Attlee in 1951.

Labour was back in power but only just, with a majority of four. A second election, held to enable Wilson to secure a mandate, was held not long after.
