The 1966 UK general election on 31 March 1966 was called by sitting Labour Prime Minister Harold Wilson.
Wilson called an election as he had won the 1964 election with an unworkable small majority of only four MPs.
He hailed the 1966 result "a great victory". It is only the second time a Labour government has been voted back into power.
