England football fans have been dancing in the streets in celebration of Thursday's 3-0 win against Switzerland.

Millions of fans watched England's second Group B game, in Coimbra, with 90% of UK businesses offering staff flexible hours to see kick-off.

In Portugal, England fans conga-ed past Albufeira's bars with the main street so crowded police closed it to traffic.

Triumphant supporters also danced in Trafalgar Square and there were no reports of violence in either country.

Fan Steve Elliot, 34, in London, said "England are going to go all the way to the final where they will get revenge on the French."

In Coimbra, fans enjoyed the use of an Astroturf football pitch provided by the authorities.

A crowd of around 2,500 celebrated the result by singing along to the Three Lions, Vindaloo and the theme from the Great Escape.

BBC News Online correspondent Duncan Walker, in Albufeira, Portugal, said fans unable to make it to Coimbra for the match conga-ed along the streets after the win.

Light-hearted

Hundreds joined in the singing and dancing at the start of a night of partying but emptied out of the streets into bars or to watch France play less than half an hour after the football finished, he said.

Jan Arnold, from Milton Keynes, said: "We hope it stays as happy and light-hearted as it is. We're going off now because my grandson, who's nine is with us."

Glen from Essex, was philosophical about an ongoing police presence in the streets: "Everyone has had a couple of drinks and I can see it's necessary for them to be here."

Before the match bars in the centre of Albufeira were packed with England fans jostling for the best view of the screens.

Scott Willoughby, a fan from Sheffield, told BBC News Online: "It's brilliant. There's thousands of us here and in town every bar will be full of fans.

"It's just like being in England but boiling hot."
