Sir Stanley Matthews, one of the most renowned of modern footballers, has died aged 85.

Here we show his life in the spotlight, and pay tribute to this great sporting talent.





Sir Stanley and his Blackpool captain Harry Johnson, holding the FA Cup, are carried off the Wembley pitch after beating Bolton 4-3.The match came to be known as the Matthews Cup Final after Sir Matthew inspired his team-mates to come back from 3-1 to snatch an historic victory.
