Klinsmann was hailed as Spurs' saviour but he may now be out for the season

Tottenham are out of the FA Cup but more worrying for the struggling Premiership side Jurgen Klinsmann could be out for the season.

Klinsmann was hailed as the saviour for relegation-haunted Spurs when he returned to the club just before Christmas.

The German international was taken to hospital with a suspected broken jaw as Spurs went down 3-1 in their FA Cup fourth round replay against Barnsley.

With Spurs trailing 2-1, Klinsmann and Adie Moses went for a high ball just outside the centre circle.

The Germany skipper landed awkwardly and lay screaming in agony on the ground. He was stretchered off and taken straight to hospital.

Ashley Ward and Neil Redfearn had put Barnsley 2-0 up in the second half within eight minutes of Spurs midfielder Stephen Clemence being sent off for a second bookable offence.

David Ginola pulled one back in the 72nd minute with a wonderful freekick.

The goal brought with it brief hopes of a comeback but Darren Barnard made it safe for Barnsley.

The Yorkshire team now have an away date at Manchester United in the fifth-round.
