He added that the only way the fight would not go ahead would be if the former world champion injured himself.

Frank Warren: No fears

Tyson's opponent, fellow American Lou Savarese, arrived in Glasgow on Thursday and Warren predicted he would prove to be a tougher opponent than Julius Francis, who was beaten in four minutes.

Warren revealed that Tyson has been affected by the fatal shooting of a close friend whose funeral he will attend on Saturday.

The boxer stopped training for two days following his friend's death.

Double standards

Warren said he expected a good fight, with Tyson winning in six or seven rounds.

The promoter attacked the Scottish National Party and, in particular, its leader Alex Salmond, whom he accused of double standards in his opposition to Mike Tyson coming to fight in Glasgow.

He said he was not interested in settling his differences with the Glasgow Rape Crisis Centre who unsuccessfully petitioned the courts to try to prevent the Tyson fight going ahead at Hampden.

The former heavyweight world champion is due to fight Savarese at Hampden despite opposition from groups who claim the convicted rapist should not be allowed into the country.

Other problems have also dogged the likelihood of the fight going ahead including a lack of car parking at the planned site of the bout.

This was overcome earlier this week when Glasgow City Council agreed a former council depot could be used for extra parking.

The move, made on Tuesday, should clear the way for the local authority to grant a safety certificate for Hampden.

Tyson's last fight in Britain was against Julius Francis in Manchester at the start of the year. He beat the British heavyweight inside two rounds.
