Dannii Minogue: Performing as Lady Macbeth in Edinburgh
News image
Australian actress and singer Dannii Minogue is staying in her role as Lady Macbeth at the Edinburgh Fringe - despite reports she has quit the show.

She is appearing in Journey to Macbeth 99 at the Royal Botanic Garden, but it had been rumoured she had gone missing or left the production.

But the producer of the Theatrum Botanicum production, John Lees, said the show was definitely going on as planned.

He said: "The idea that she has got stage fright is ludicrous. She played to a sell-out house last night and it's the same again tonight. There is nothing wrong at all."

Visual experience

Lees added there had been a mix-up over dates for the production, which caused the confusion.

"When we booked the venue three months ago we entered it in the Fringe listings.

"But we discovered there was an opera the day before we were due to start, so we moved it back two days.

"Unfortunately, people phoning were told the Monday and Tuesday performances had been cancelled - and that's where it all started.

"There were people going round with flyers saying 'Where is Dannii?'

"She thought it was hysterical."

The torchlit production aims to bring Shakespeare to a younger audience.

During rehearsals, director Toby Gough said: "We are going to have fire-eaters and stilt-walkers. It will be a fabulous visual experience."

Dannii was reportedly recommended for the role by her sister Kylie, who starred in the a production of The Tempest in Barbados earlier this year.
