Health centre opens after revamp
Shona Robison
Health Minister Shona Robison opened the health centre
Galashiels Health Centre has been officially opened by Public Health Minister Shona Robison after a 2.4m modernisation programme.

The refurbishment doubled the size of the premises, extending the old building on three sides.

Galashiels now has the largest health centre in the Borders, providing services for more than 14,000 patients.

Ms Robison will also be conducting NHS Borders' annual review during her visit to the area.

The work on the health centre included the addition of new entrance, waiting and reception areas, with improved facilities.

Patient care

Mary Wilson, chairwoman of NHS Borders, said: "The health centre at Currie Road now provides the GPs and staff who work there with a much-improved working environment, with extra space dedicated to providing more local services for patients by multi-disciplinary teams.

"Alongside the usual services provided by GPs and other practice-based healthcare staff, the health centre now also contains state-of-the art dental surgeries and a base for the oral health promotion team."

The building features specially-designed rooms for a range of visiting clinicians to provide patient care and a new base for the Borders Sexual Health Service Team.
