Winds of 140mph have been recorded at the mouth to the tunnel for the Cairn Gorm funicular railway, according to VisitScotland's Ski-Scotland website. Stormy weather has closed the railway and ski runs on the mountain and hit travel in the Highlands and Islands.
Ferry sailings to the Small Isles and Colonsay have been cancelled and 17 other of Caledonian MacBrayne's services disrupted.
The Skye and Kessock bridges have been closed to high-sided vehicles.
High routes
All schools on Uist and Barra have been closed and police are warning drivers of hazardous driving conditions on the Western Isles.
Highland Council said a fallen tree was being cleared from the B9090 at Nairn.
Seaweed, stones and branches were also being swept from roads in Lochaber and snow was affecting travel on the A884.
The council said there was snow on high routes in Sutherland and Ross and Cromarty.
