Student created cannabis hothouse
A student converted a flat into a hothouse to grow hundreds of cannabis plants, a court has heard.

Billy Corr had special lighting and growbags in the flat in Rupert Street, Glasgow, and the total value was between 35,000 and 70,000.

Corr, who admitted producing the drug, was caught by police after a downstairs neighbour complained about overflowing water which had caused a damp patch.

Sentence on Corr, 21, of Maryhill Road, was deferred for background reports.

The High Court in Glasgow heard that when the landlord went to investigate the neighbour's complaint, he found hundreds of cannabis plants and called the police.

The accused has a previous conviction for cultivating cannabis and was approached by a third party and asked to cultivate the plants

Prosecutor Andrew MacMillan said: "It is estimated that the total yield from the plants would have been 35,000 to 70,000."

Corr admitted unlawfully producing cannabis between 1 November, 2003 and 9 March last year.

Mark Moir, defending, said: "The accused has a previous conviction for cultivating cannabis and was approached by a third party and asked to cultivate the plants.

"He was not involved in the tenancy of this flat. Nobody lived in the flat. His position is he was paid 500 to set up the lighting and the plants in the grow bags.

"He then continued as the gardener looking after the plants."
