Sir Alex has an estimated �30m

Harry Dobson, the highest new Scottish entry, has been placed joint 70th in the overall list with an estimated wealth of �444m.

Mr Dobson, who made his fortune in zinc and gold mining in Canada, was born in the Scottish borders.

He also has a passion for horse racing and includes 40 horses among his assets.

Last year Mr Dobson bought out Manchester United ex-chairman, Martin Edwards' �12m stake in the club, making him one of two men with ties to the club to enter the list.

The second is Sir Alex Ferguson, joint thirteenth on the Scottish newcomers list and 976th overall, with an estimated fortune of �30m.

The Glasgow born Manchester United manager has made his fortune recently with a half share in retired race horse Rock of Gibraltar, as well as securing a new three year contract worth �11m.

A former Aberdeen Football Club manager, Ferguson is renowned for his successes, having led United to seven titles over the past decade.

Annie Lennox makes about �3m a year

Joining Sir Alex on the list is former Eurythmics singer, Annie Lennox, also ranked joint thirteenth newcomer and 976th overall with an estimated fortune of �30m.

The 48-year-old singer is known both for her part in the 80s band as well as her solo career.

She is now estimated to earn around �3m a year.

Other new Scottish entries include Chris Gorman, who sold his Glasgow-based e-commerce company for �35m in 2000 and Ephraim Belcher, head of Belcher Food Products whose processing plant is in Glasgow.
