The Scottish Qualifications Authority has confirmed that all pupils will receive their exam results this summer by 14 August - a week later than last year.

The SQA has pledged to prevent a repeat of last summer's exams fiasco that left thousands of pupils with late or incorrect results.

The delays also affected pupils waiting for confirmation of university places and the SQA has said that universities and colleges will get results a week earlier this year.

Last year, results were posted out on 9 August, but the results were strewn with errors.

SQA shake-up

Following a parliamentary inquiry into the exam marking process, the Scottish Executive vowed to ensure the chaos would never be repeated.

A wholesale clear-out at the exams authority was announced by Education Minister Jack McConnell in November.

A new board was put in place and an action plan unveiled to prevent further exam problems.

Among the raft of measures announced included an early warning system, which will allow pupils, parents and teachers to voice concerns about the administration of exams.
