John Turturro tells Hardtalk Extra he learned to act by observing his family |
In a HardTalk Extra interview screened on 24th March, Patrick O'Connell spoke to actor turned director John Turturro, and asked how he is finding life behind the camera with his new film Romance and Cigarettes.
John Turturro has become a favourite of arthouse film aficionados and has forged-long term working relationships with directors like the Coen brothers and Spike Lee.
He was first discovered by Robert de Niro almost twenty five years ago and has gone on to become a hugely respected character actor.
He has specialized in playing off-beat, often grotesque characters that have included the highly agitated 'Pino' in Do the Right Thing, a neurotic writer in Barton Fink and an escaped convict in O Brother Where Art Thou? alongside George Clooney.
He talks to Patrick O'Connell about his approach to acting and the new direction his career is taking behind the lens.
