Gay sex is a crime in India. So when the son of a Maharajah came out publicly in the western Indian state of Gujarat, he was shunned by his family and the local community. But Manvendra Singh Gohil - the Prince of Rajpipla - is unfazed, and unashamedly describes himself as a gay activist. Ten years ago he founded the Lakshya Trust with some friends. Lakshya is a non-governmental organisation committed to working on HIV/AIDs prevention among men who have sex with men. But the majority of these men are married. So in a ground-breaking move, Lakshya began working on HIV prevention with the wives of these men. In a series of extraordinarily candid interviews, Crossing Continents hears the stories of men and women whose married lives stray far from what is considered the norm in India. BBC Radio 4's Crossing Continents was broadcast on Thursday, 19 April 2007 at 1102 BST. It was repeated on Monday, 30 April 2007 at 2030 BST.
