BBC Radio 4's award-winning series, Crossing Continents, returned for a new series on Thursday, 15 March. In the first programme, Jon Leyne investigates how Jordan is coping with the biggest migration of refugees in the Middle East since the creation of the state of Israel in 1948.
Fifty thousand Iraqis have been fleeing their country every month with many knocking on Jordan's door.
Latest UNHCR estimates put the number of Iraqis in Jordan at close to a million - in a country of only five million people.
Crossing Continents asks what impact this is having on Jordan.
King Abdullah's official response is that the refugees are welcome, but there are signs that this hospitality is wearing thin.
Prices in Jordan are going through the roof, which many Jordanians blame the Iraqis for.
Jon meets an estate agent in his humvee who is reaping it in.
And he meets Iraqis who claimed that small police mini buses were cruising the downtown area of Amman, picking up Iraqis and dumping them over the border in fear of their lives.
Crossing Continents investigates these claims and met with everyday Iraqis and Jordanians as well as Prince Hassan of Jordan to ask whether the ongoing influx of Iraqis will become an asset or a destabilising influence on the small Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
