Mr McCartney was stabbed outside a bar in Belfast |
Several hundred people gathered in the Short Strand area of east Belfast for a vigil for a man murdered in the city. Robert McCartney, 33, a father of two, of Mountpottinger Road, died after being stabbed outside a pub in Belfast on Sunday night.
The dead man's sisters said he was a "protector" and they felt "shattered" by his death.
Friday's vigil was organised by his family, who have appealed to anyone who knows about the murder to come forward.
Mr McCartney's sisters, Paula, Gemma, Claire and Catherine, said they had already lost a brother four years ago and that Robert's murder was "shattering" for his wife, Bridgene, his young sons and his wider family.
They said there was anger in the community.
On Wednesday, police released three men, including a senior republican, who had been detained following the attack.
A fourth man who was being questioned about withholding information concerning the stabbing was released on Thursday.
It is understood police are treating the incident as a pub fight.
