A specialist has ordered complete rest for the Tottenham midfielder's injured Achilles tendon. The injury-prone midfielder has frequently endured stop-start seasons before taking part in international campaigns during the summer.
Anderton underwent surgery on the injury in September and knows he must rest if the problem is to go away. "It means a lot to me to be ready for Tottenham and I will have to pull out of Euro 2000," Anderton said.
"I hope to be involved in the last two league games at Manchester United tomorrow and against Sunderland next Sunday. But after that I am going to follow Mr King's advice." England coach Kevin Keegan said he understood Anderton's proble. "Darren and his medical advisors know best," said Keegan. "He is a quality player and I look forward to him being fit for selection next season. His welfare has to come first and I wish him all the best." |
