Star of Frasier and Cheers Kelsey Grammer has earned a spot on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The triple Emmy award winner has the 2,177th star on Hollywood Boulevard.

The ceremony took place in front of the Hollywood Entertainment Museum, where the original bar set from Cheers is on display.

"I never thought I would be here. I'm surprised and humbled by it," Grammer said at the ceremony, accompanied by David Hyde Pierce, who plays Niles, and producer-director James Burrows.

Strange man

"I'd like to thank Frasier, the strange man who is a product of my imagination and I'd also like to thank the writers of the show," Grammer said. "I really enjoyed the ride."

Grammer has played Dr Frasier Crane in three different TV programmes. The first appearance of Dr Crane was on Cheers.

After Cheers ended in 1993, Frasier was created in the same year, which has been running for eight years. He also makes occasional guest appearances on another NBC sitcom, Wings.

Frasier, set in Seattle, centres around Dr Frasier Crane, an eminent radio psychiatrist, who lives in an apartment with his cantankerous father Marty, Marty's carer Daphne, and a precocious dog called Eddie. His neurotic brother Niles also appears frequently.

The first appearance of the Frasier Crane character was in a 1984 episode of Cheers, which means that Grammer has played the character of Frasier Crane for almost 17 years.

His talents are not solely restricted to playing Frasier Crane however.

He also voices the character of Sideshow Bob on The Simpsons, and has made a number of feature film appearances including Down Periscope and 15 Minutes.
