| Monday, 15 April, 2002, 16:27 GMT 17:27 UK Art worth �30m up for auction ![]() Le Tub: Thought to be one of Degas's finest sculptures An art exhibition worth an estimated �30m featuring works by Monet, Picasso, Magritte and Degas has opened to the public at Christie's auction house in London. The collection of impressionist, modern and contemporary art is due to go under the hammer in New York next month. Magritte's L'Empire des Lumieres has the highest estimated price tag - up to $7m (�4.8m).
Also among the exhibits is the sculpture Le Tub, by Degas, which is widely regarded as the artist's most innovative. Le Tub is expected to fetch up to $1.8m (�1.25m) and piece depicts a partially submerged bather viewed from above. Other highlights are Picasso's Les Courses, which is expected to fetch up to $6.5m (�4.5m), and Monet's landscape Vetheuil au Soleil. The Monet is estimated at up to $6m (�4.2m). The exhibition runs until Tuesday evening. The auctions are scheduled to be held between 7 and 15 May. The final auction in the sale of a Dutch businessman's vast art collection also goes ahead in Amsterdam on Tuesday.
The Anton CR Dreesman Collection includes works by Degas, Van Gogh, Picasso, Monet and Cezanne. Pieces by Seurat, Monet, Van Gogh, Gaugin and Schiele were sold in the first three days of the four-day sale in London last week. Of all the items sold so far, Seurat's Le Tas de Pierre fetched the best price - $1.2m (�862,000).
