Tennant will play George Milton to Brennan's Lennie Small |
Doctor Who actor David Tennant is to star in a radio dramatisation of John Steinbeck's novel Of Mice and Men. The drama - produced by BBC Radio Scotland - will air in Radio 4's Classic Serial slot early next year. Tennant will appear with Liam Brennan in the tragic story of two migrant workers in 1930s California. Steinbeck's novella has been adapted for radio by writer Donna Franceschild, who worked with the Scottish actor on BBC Two drama Takin' Over the Asylum. Famously filmed in 1939 with Burgess Meredith and Lon Chaney Jr, Steinbeck's novel has been adapted several times since. George Segal and Nicol Williamson appeared in a 1968 version, while a 1992 adaptation starred Gary Sinise and John Malkovich. Tennant will step down from his role as the Doctor after three specials that will air towards the end of this year. He will shortly reprise his stage performance as Hamlet in a BBC Two film of his recent Royal Shakespeare Company production.
