Manic Street Preachers: Swept the board at the NME Awards
News image
The Manic Street Preachers have won four of the main prizes in the NME's annual awards.

Readers of the music paper voted the Manics Best Band as well as giving them Best Single, Album and Video.

Last year it was the Verve who dominated the NME Awards.

Dance star Fatboy Slim and guitar band Gomez both picked up honours, while Robbie Williams took the Best Solo Artist title.

In previous years NME held a star-studded award ceremony to hand over the awards, formerly known as The Brats.

However this year there was no ceremony and winners were simply announced in a special edition of Radio 1 DJ Steve Lamacq's show, Lamacq Live, and marked with an award winners edition of the paper published this week.

It has been a good year for the Manics. Only a few months ago they won the title of Best Band in the World at the Q Awards.

They also notched up their first number one single in 1998.

The band's award-winning fourth album This Is My Truth, Tell Me Yours was the first which did not feature lyrics from guitarist Richey Edwards who disappeared nearly four years ago.

In addition to the readers voting NME writers also picked three awards including the Godlike Genius Award For Services To Music which went to Massive Attack.
