Commuters hit by gales and rain
Gale force winds and heavy rains have lashed parts of Yorkshire causing problems on the roads and some localised flooding.

There were a number of serious accidents across the county caused by difficult driving conditions.

The M62 over the high Pennines was closed for high-sided vehicles between junction 21 and 23 with HGV drivers being told to use lower routes.

Flooding closed the A646 between Hebden Bridge and Todmorden in West Yorkshire.

Winds gusting at 65 miles an hour blew a lorry over on the A1(M) in North Yorkshire during the morning rush hour, closing the road northbound.

In South Yorkshire the Meadowhall Viaduct on the M1 was closed to goods vehicles.
