A teenager from Somerset has died in a car crash in south-west France.

Ben Crozier, 19, from Shepton Mallet, was killed when the car he was travelling in left the road and overturned at 1810 BST on Friday.

Three other passengers were critically injured in the accident, including 18-year-old Dicken Richards, also from Shepton Mallet.

Mr Richards suffered serious head and chest injuries and remains in a coma in a Toulouse hospital.

His stepfather Jon Maine said: "Dicken is going to be in a critical condition for the next week."

Local police have confirmed that there were six people in the Peugeot 206 which crashed on a country road in Betplan, 80 miles west of Toulouse.

"Reports that we are getting is that the car was overloaded and was going too fast," added Mr Maine.

"It clipped a kerb on a bend and rolled over. Three of them were thrown out of the car."

Mr Crozier, who had recently finished a business course at Strode College, was in France visiting his father, who has moved there.
