A 92-year-old Somerset station master has been appointed MBE for her services to the rail industry in the county. Iris Horn from Taunton still runs Stogumber Railway Station, after having moved there with her husband following World War II. A railway spokesman said she had seen the station though the Great Western days, ending in 1971, through to the West Somerset Railway. "She has turned the station into a real visitor attraction," he said. Also appointed MBE is David Mlinaric of Shepton Mallet, for services to interior design and to heritage along with Elizabeth Redfern, the director of Patient Care and Nursing, of the South West Strategic Health Authority.  | SEE THE FULL LIST

Paul Aplin of Taunton is appointed OBE, for his work in the accountancy profession, while Margaret Haskell, the Director of Human Resources of Avon Fire and Rescue Service also becomes an OBE. Further OBEs go to Warwick Rodwell, for services to ecclesiastical archaeology and Dulverton-based Councillor Keith Ross, the Leader of West Somerset District Council and Deputy Chairman of the Local Government Association. Barbara Bond from Taunton, the Pro-Chancellor and former chairman of the Board of Governors at Plymouth University, becomes an MBE for her services to higher education. Bridget Dollard of Yeovil is appointed MBE for services to the community in the town as is Commander David Howard of Bath for his voluntary service to older people in Lansdown. Elizabeth Hughes, the former secretary at Beechfield Infant School in Burnham-on-Sea becomes an MBE for services to education.
