More than 20,000 has been raised so far |
Organisers of the Brian Clough Statue Fund say they are aiming to reach their 60,000 target during 2006. More than 20,000 has already been raised for the statue, which will honour the football player and manager who died in September 2004.
Around 400 special green sweatshirts have been sold to raise money and three rare banners have been auctioned for more than 2,000.
The fund was launched in Nottingham in June this year.
The statue will be located in Nottingham city centre, but a final location has not been chosen.
Old Big 'Ead
A bucket collection at the City Ground before Forest's Hartlepool match in October raised 4,000.
More banners featuring some of Clough's best-known quotes will be auctioned in the coming months.
The fund's chairman Paul Ellis said: "Some more badges are going to be on sale in the new year and we're looking to have a big gala dinner, so we'll hoping to raise funds there.
"And also the (Nottingham) Playhouse are helping us as well because a play that was on last year 'Old Big 'Ead' is coming back again and they're going to have one performance where the proceeds are going to go towards the fund."
Clough, who played for Middlesbrough and managed Derby County and Nottingham Forest to League championship wins in the 1970s, died from cancer aged 69. He won two European Cups with Nottingham Forest in 1979 and 1980.
Clough also won two England caps and scored 251 goals in 274 games as a striker for Middlesbrough and Sunderland.
