A company has been has been fined �12,000 with �1,000 costs for flouting rules designed to cut the amount of packaging going to landfill sites. Northampton-based import company Bodum UK was prosecuted by the Environment Agency.
The firm handles more than 200 tonnes of packaging annually and has an annual turnover of �8m.
It had ignored the recycling legislation for two years, Northampton Magistrates' Court heard.
Under environmental regulations any company with an annual turnover of more than �2m and handling more then 50 tonnes of packaging must recover and recycle a large percentage of its waste materials.
