A coroner has warned people about excessive alcohol use after a man died following a heavy drinking session. Norwich coroner William Armstrong recorded a verdict of misadventure on the death of Colin List, 41, who died in November last year.
An inquest on Monday heard Mr List had 413 milligrams (mg) per 100 millilitres (ml) of blood in his body at the time of his death.
The drink-driving limit in the UK is set at 80mg per 100ml of blood.
Mr List's partner, Jacqueline Bush, told the inquest in Norwich that the couple had been to a party at a club in Swaffham and he stopped to lay down as they were walking home. She then brought him home in a taxi. Once there, Mr List stopped breathing and an ambulance was called.
A post-mortem examination found he had died from inhaling vomit due to drinking.
Recording the verdict, Mr Armstrong cited recent news related to alcohol abuse. Prime Minister Tony Blair last week pointed to excessive drink as the cause of anti-social behaviour and expressed concern about binge drinking.
Mr Armstrong said: "This tragedy is an illustration of how people can die after consuming too much alcohol."
