An inquest will open on Wednesday into the death of an Everton fan who was killed on his way to the Walker's Stadium in Leicester over the weekend.

Bernard Murphy, 39, from Huyton, Liverpool was hit by falling debris on Upperton Road on Saturday.

Police say they are not treating his death as suspicious.

Club spokesman Darren Griffiths said: "It is difficult to sum up in words what we think when you leave home on the way to a football match where you think you will be perfectly safe and sound."

Mr Griffiths said the death in high winds was a, "tragic, tragic accident".

"I can only reiterate that the conditions in the Midlands have been absolutely treacherous," he said after the accident.
