Police say a man who was shot dead in his Manchester home was targeted because of his criminal background. Ernest Gifford, 45, from Moss Side, was shot by three masked men at his home in Raby Street. His partner and two children were also in the house.
Greater Manchester Police Det Supt Martin Bottomley said: "They heard the gunshot and no-one should have to go through what they experienced."
Mr Gifford died the day after the shooting from a single bullet wound.
'Dangerous' individuals
Det Supt Bottomley added: "This was a vicious and premeditated attack which took place while the victim's girlfriend and two children were in the house.
"We believe Mr Gifford was the victim of a targeted attack by three extremely dangerous individuals because of his criminal background."
The three men, who were all wearing dark clothing and balaclavas, ran off towards Greater Western Street after Tuesday's shooting.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
