Damilola charity's knife amnesty

Damilola bled to death in Peckham from a leg wound
A charity set up after the death of schoolboy Damilola Taylor is using fashion and music to highlight the dangers of carrying knives.

The 'Respect your life - Not a knife' campaign will be launched by the Damilola Trust at the Ministry of Sound club in south London on Thursday.

Damilola bled to death from a leg wound in Peckham, south London, in 2000.

Two brothers cleared of murdering the 10-year-old are to face a retrial, accused of his manslaughter, in June.

Anti-social behaviour

Hassan Jihad, aged 20, was cleared of murder after a trial earlier this year.

In 2002, four other youths went on trial for Damilola's murder but the case against two collapsed while the other two were acquitted.

The Damilola Trust hopes to deter youngsters from wanting to carry knives for reasons relating to fashion, self-protection or to gain respect.

It also coincides with the government's current Respect initiative designed to tackle anti-social behaviour.
