Police bail sixth murder suspect
Joan and John Stirland
The Stirlands had fled their home in Nottingham
An 18-year-old man arrested after a couple were shot dead in their seaside home has been released on police bail.

Joan and John Stirland were found dead in the village of Trusthorpe, Lincolnshire, on 8 August.

The teenager from Nottingham was arrested on Monday but released pending further inquiries on Wednesday night, police said.

He was the sixth Nottingham man to have been questioned and released by detectives since the deaths.

The Stirlands called the police to report a prowler, just minutes before they were shot dead on the Radio St Peter estate just after 1400 BST.

A burning car was spotted a short time later about two miles away but the couple's bodies were not discovered until after 2100 BST that day when a police officer called at their home.

In July this year Mrs Stirland's son, Michael O'Brien, was convicted of shooting dead an innocent man outside a Nottingham pub.

Police are investigating possible links between that murder and the deaths of Mr and Mrs Stirland.
