Radical plans for local government, including scrapping 12 district councils, are being unveiled in Lancashire. The county council says it will back proposals to disband Lancashire's 12 district councils and create a single council for the whole area.
It has come up with the plan because the government has decided there can be only one tier of local government if people vote for a regional assembly next year.
But the county's other councils look set to oppose the plan.
Grouping together
If regional government is given the go-ahead, Lancashire County Council could face abolition, says the BBC's North West Political Correspondent Jim Hancock.
He said district councils are planning on grouping together to form three or four unitary councils to run all the services.
Ribble Valley Council has already signalled it will oppose the county council's plans.
The government will make proposals for the future local government map in the county in December.
