A British oarsman is aiming to raise funds for a hospice by rowing across the Atlantic Ocean - three years after he was forced to abandon a similar attempt. Richard Wood, from Northwick, Worcester, is inviting members of the public to help name the boat being used in his latest bid to help the city's St Richard's Hospice.
The father-of-three, a youth worker, was thwarted in 2001 after losing his rowing partner through injury when he scalded his hand while cooking.
Mr Wood expects to begin the 3,000-mile row to Barbados from the Canary Islands in January.
"We're hoping to raise a substantial amount for the hospice, but the main problem is finding businesses to sponsor us," the 47-year-old said.
Potential names for Mr Wood's marine plywood craft, accompanied by donations to the hospice, must be submitted by 22 August.
